OUTREACH AT GOOD SHEPHERD:
This year, under the leadership of our able deacon Liz Ostuni, we have opened a community garden. Spaces are given on a first come, first serve basis to those in the community who wish. We have one plot to grow flowers for the altar and one to grow fresh vegetables for the soup kitchen and pantry.
Bea's Kitchen is our Saturday Free Lunch Program. The Grocery Cart is our pantry open to the public on Tuesdays and Thursday mornings.
IHN- For two weeks each summer we house the transitional homeless through the Interfaith Hospitality Network. With the help of up to 50 members of the congregation we are able to feed and shelter our guests.
Youth Mission Trips- In 2008 a group of youth and adults traveled to Appalachia to help rebuild homes for the elderly and the poor. In 2010 they went to Maryland to do the same. They are now planning a trip on 2011 to Navajo Mountain, Utah to help rebuild, repair and improve homes of Native Americans.
North Porch- We collect diapers, wipes and other baby items for North Porch, a baby protection agency.
Thanksgiving Baskets and Christmas Presents- every year we collect items for Thanksgiving and Christmas and give them to people who come to us for help.
Seaman's Institute- we collect hats, scarves, gloves and calendars for the Seaman's Institute.
We collect the fronts of Christmas cards for St. Jude's Ranch. They use the card fronts to make their own cards to sell.
Prayer Shawl Ministry- Our knitters and crocheters gather monthly to make shawls for the elderly, the cold, and those who need a hug.
We sponsor Community Blood Drives to help the area hospitals.
